Remote reading of electricity meters over DLMS/COSEM

EnerSync reads electricity metering groups with DLMS/COSEM and IEC 62056-21 through remote nodes over modem, internet or VPN, and keeps load profiles, billing data and the outcome of every call.

01What it solves

The meter data, with its history

15-minute load profiles

Active and reactive energy per quadrant with the meter event log, closed at end of interval and aggregable from minute to year.

Every call leaves a trace

The daily readout keeps outcome, duration, meter identification and the raw OBIS block: when something is off, you know what the meter answered.

Constants and bands applied at read time

The transformation constant is valid over time, per validity period; ARERA F1/F2/F3 bands with Italian holidays are computed on the sample, without rewriting the archive.

02How it works

How remote reading works

  1. 01

    Reading nodes

Remote nodes in the field query the meters with DLMS/COSEM or IEC 62056-21, according to the meter connection type.

  2. 02

    Modem, internet or VPN

Three transports per meter: a modem call, a direct IP connection or through a VPN. The platform does not dictate the network.

  3. 03

    Archive and scaling

Profiles, monthly data and readouts land in the raw archive; the kT constant and per-register scales are applied when you read, with a raw option.

  4. 04

    API and aggregations

Profiles and billing through the API with 14 aggregation levels, DST handled, tariff bands stamped on the sample.

04Regulation and obligations

Electricity metering: responsibilities and data to make available

  • ARERA, Resolution 458/2016/R/eel — TIME

Integrated text on electricity metering: metering responsibility, validation and data availability. Profiles and monthly data with a trace of every reading support the obligations towards users.

  • IEC 62056 (DLMS/COSEM) and IEC 62056-21

The international standard for meter data exchange: reading over DLMS/COSEM means no dependence on proprietary protocols and changing manufacturer without changing system.

  • ARERA, Resolution 727/2022/R/eel — TIAD

Collective self-consumption and energy communities: shared energy is computed hourly from metering data. Complete, reliable profiles are needed for every point.

  • Italian D.Lgs. 102/2014, art. 8 — energy audit

Large and energy-intensive enterprises audit every four years and the ENEA guidelines require a monitoring plan: metering groups read at 15 minutes are the basis of that plan.

05Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions on DLMS reading

Which meters are supported?

Meters speaking DLMS/COSEM or IEC 62056-21. Meters from several manufacturers are read in the field, including Kaifa, Iskra and EMH.

If I replace the CT, how do you handle the constant?

The transformation constant is a list per validity period: the right value is applied at read time to the sample of the right date, without touching historical data.

What happens when the meter does not answer?

The readout records the outcome (no modem response, no meter response, CRC error) with duration and identification: diagnosis starts from data, not from guesswork.

How do I integrate the profiles into my system?

Through the REST API with per-tenant tokens: profiles and monthly data at the granularity you need, as physical or raw values.
